Description
The Antler
This maple headed putter is made with an insert of horn from a stag reared on the Dalchully estate in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Each year the stags shed their antlers in the spring to allow new ones to grow, as the horns grow they develop a cover of soft skin on their crown known as velvet, this is highly sought after for herbal medicine in Asia especially in places like China. The horn which is porous is first cleaned and then filled to create a solid block. This block is then cut into slices and shaped into individual pieces by skilled crafts people. The piece is then inserted into the face of the putter.
Every piece is hand-made and original, no two are ever the same, making this the perfect Scottish gift. The wood mallet putter head style was the shape popular around the end of the 19th century.
This putter is one of a collection of 3 traditional horn putters.
