This picture is part of our great courses collection Muirfield which is the current home of the Honourable company of Edinburgh golfers. The company originally started in Leith in 1744 and then moved to Musselburgh before eventually moving to its current home of the esteemed Muirfield in 1891.
Donald Ford captured Muirfield in all its glory with one of his famous pictures. Donald did not start out as a photographer and was a talented sportsman. Donald played football for Hearts Football club and also has 3 international caps for Scotland.
Donald played for Scotland against West Germany, Wales and Czechoslavakia. A knee injury forced him into early retirement however this allowed his cricket career to blossom and in 1974 he got his first cap for Scotland in the World Cup.
Donald was also an established accountant and with ever increasing government levies he decided to sell his accountancy firm in 1991 and start a new career as a landscape photographer. Donald opened up a gallery in 1994 and used his photographs to make calendars. The first batch of 4500 sold out completely.
